Title: 10 Compelling Reasons for Implementing Web Based, Database driven Logbooks in the Power Industry
Abstract: In these times of commercial turbulence in the Power Industry, operating management face a massive increase in pressure to improve performance and efficiency and increase safety. Despite this, many companies still use paper based or Excel based logbooks which results in difficulties in locating information, poor data accuracy, security vulnerabilities, limited access with little control on the documents.
In contrast, modern, web-based Electronic Logs use efficient database structures, are secure and scalable, include full auditing facilities, can be invoked across multiple sites and link into multiple other apps like Maintenance apps, OPC and data Historians. These logbooks are multi-site and multi-functional; a single central electronic logbook replacing piles of different paper or Excel logbooks across multiple sites
This presentation is based on years of practical experience implementing Web based Logbooks with hundreds of end user sites in the power industry. It also discusses a painless process of moving from paper or spreadsheet based logs to web based, database driven logs and identifies a number of integration standards used by industry leading companies in improving asset management for electric utilities and industrial communcations.
The Speaker: Dr Nicholas Hurley BSc, Msc, PhD, DIC has over 25 years of experience in Electronic Control Room Logbooks in the Power and Petrochemical Industries. He is Managing Director of St James Software (an International Software Company that specializes in the implementation of Software Applications in the Operating Environment).
