Can I use a non-standard port for MySQL? Print E-mail

Yes, here is what you need to do:

1/ First set the port number using MySQL Instance config wizard.
(Start -> Programs -> MySQl ->MySQL Service 4.1 -> My SQL Instance Config Wizard
Reconfigure Instance
Detailed Configuration
Developer Machine
Multifunction Database
Click next till you get to the Enable TCPIP settings
Change the port number to 3308
Click next till you get to the security settings. (Make sure this is unclicked)
Click next till you get to the Instance configuration. Click on the execute button.
This will reconfigure and start the MySQL Instance to the new port.
(Note if it does not restart the service, go to the service panel and click on Start.)

2/ Set the Port Environment variable for the client machine
Click on the MyComputer icon
Click on the Properties tab
Click on Advanced
Click on Environment Variables
In the System Variables Window, click on New
Add the environment variable MYSQL_TCP_PORT and give it the value 3308

3/ Start jHistorian
